22 January 2010 882 views No Comment

welshopenlogo1Today is the final qualifying round of the Welsh Open snooker tournament, later on we will found out which 16 players will join the games elite at the Newport Centre in Newport next week.

In an earlier story on Cuesportnews.com, Tony Drago was featured after already having gone through two rounds of qualifying. We can make a further update on that story now as Drago has reached the final qualifying round beating Jimmy Michie 5-2 in the process. The Tornado has just started his match against Gerard Greene for a place in the main event.

The biggest match of the round is in the 4pm session as two former World Champions go head-to-head for a place at the Newport Centre. Graeme Dott against Ken Doherty. Doherty has seen a resurgence this year and after a dismal 08-09 campaign has done well so far in 09-10. Dott is another player that needs to find some form or face sliding down the rankings.

Other matches include: Steve Davis v Dominic Dale, Ricky Walden v Tom Ford, Jamie Cop v Alan McManus, Judd Trump against Masters Qualifier Rory McLeod and Michael Holt v Liu Song.
