Tom Ford wins PTC 3Leicester’s 26-year-old world No. 41, Tom Ford, has won his first professional title after ten years as a main tour professional at PTC 3 in Sheffield.

Regarded as one of the most talented players on the circuit, his 4-0 win in Sheffield yesterday will give him firm foundation to break into the top 32 this season.

Ford himself said, “I know I’m going in the right direction now and I want to keep that going this season, and hopefully get into the top 32.”

The PTC event gave him his biggest snooker payday with a £10,000 first prize and the added bonus of 2000 additional ranking points.

Lisowski at 19 is one of a new breed of talent and the Gloucestershire based player is in his first season as a main tour professional. Until this tournament he was yet to win a match but showed some very good promise to reach the final after having defeated Mark Selby 4-3 in the semi-finals.

Ford in comparison has shown some good form this calendar year after having qualified for the World Championships for the first time back in April, he said, “I knuckled down mid-way through last season and getting to the Crucible gave me a lift, I’ve carried that on this season and this is definitely the best tournament I have won. In the past I spent too much time going out drinking, but I’ve cut down on that now. There’s so many tournaments over weekends now that I can’t go out anyway!”

Ford also said that a chnage of clothing during the tournament helped him to regain some focus. “There’s no dress code in the PTC events so in my first match I just wore a t-shirt,” he added.

“It didn’t feel as if it was a proper match, so for the next one I wore my shirt and waistcoat. After that I played better in every match, and in the final I only missed one ball and my safety was very good.

The next event on the PTC calendar is event 4, once again in Sheffield, and this takes place over the weekend of 13th-15th August. Ford’s win propelled him to number 2 in the PTC order of merit behind Mark Selby. The top 24 players on the order of merit qualify for the televised finals in March.
