Sascha Tege has had a breakthrough win at the 2010 German Open held in Brandeburh last week. The 31-year-old German picked up the €5000 first prize in his home nation much to the surprise of many involved with the tour.

Tege defeated some very notable players en route to the final where he came up against reigning WPA World 8-ball Champion Karl Boyes. On paper Boyes was probably the favourite but in some less than ideal conditions it was the German who came out on top.The 8-6 victory showed it was not one-way traffic but in the end Boyes had to settle for second and €3300 in prize money.

This win was Tege’s first on the Eurotour and he became the fourth German victor in the last five years of this tournament (this one and last year were played to WPA 10-ball rules, previous editions were 9-ball).

Interestingly for British fans we now have 6 British players in the top 12 on the Eurotour rankings, with Daryl Peach the newly installed number 1 ranked player.

The event ran from the 10th-12th June at th Axxon Hotel in Brandenburg, Germany and it was event three in the seven event ‘season’. Next the players will travel to Austria in July for the Austria Open.
