Mika Immonen Wins World 10-ball Title

The 2009 US Open Champion, Mika Immonen, has continued his astonishing few months by lifting the World Ten Ball Championships in Manila today.
In the final ‘The Iceman’ defeated Lee Van Corteza of the Philippines 11-6 to take the crown.
Earlier in the day Immonen booked his place in the final with a 9-7 victory over Antonio Lining, Corteza defeated Spaniard Davud Alcaide by the same scoreline.

Appleton Falls in Defence of Ten Ball Title

The first order of business today at the WPA World Ten Ball Championship was to winnow the field of 32 down to the Sweet Sixteen. Comebacks seemed to be the order of the day as Lee Van Corteza, who had trailed Yu Lung Chang 7-2, roared back with a display of break and runs to win the match 9-8. Daryl Peach had trailed Satoshi Kawabata 5-1 but turned that around and won 9-7 after denying any control of the table to Kawabata in the second half of the match. Finally …

Dang! The Name on Everyone’s Lips

There are always surprises at this stage of a tournament but perhaps the biggest one is the survival of Chinese player Jin Hu Dang. He got in this championship as an alternate to the qualifiers by filling the slot of a player who did not make the trip to Manila and he has made the most of the opportunity. Tonight he beat Ching Shun Yang (TPE) to progress to the round of 32.
Tomorrow he faces another heavyweight in the form of Sweden’s Marcus Chamat. Chamat beat Po Cheng Kuo 9-7 …

Elimination Rounds have Started at World Ten Ball Champs

This was the first day that any players could be eliminated from competition by going two and out. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the early exit by American player Shane Van Boening. Van Boeing lost today to young Russian superstar Konsatntin Stepanov 9-6.  Martin Kempter of Austria also left the room today after dropping his match on the hill to Tey Choon Kat of Singapore.  Another disappointment to the crowd came when local hero Demosthenes Pulpul faced off against Ronnie Alcano in a match that had to eliminate one Filipino. …

Day Two News from Predator International 10-Ball Tour

The second day of the Predator International 10-Ball Tour began with a big match right out of the gate. The luck of the draw found friends and traveling companions Mika Immonen (Finland) and Charlie Williams (USA) on the Kozoom show table.  This match began as a neck and neck battle until Williams caught a gear in the ninth game and dominated the balance of the match. 2009 World 10-ball Championship Announced

FOR the second consecutive year, the World Ten Ball Championship will be held in Manila, with the World Trade Center in the Philippine capital serving as venue when the event unfolds on November 25-30.
