Shanghai Masters Qualifying Underway in Sheffield

The first round of qualifying for the 2010 Roewe Shanghai Masters started this morning at 10am up at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
There are a number of interesting names making their professional debuts at this event none more so than the name Reanne Evans. The six-times World Ladies Snooker champion starts her first fully-fledged ranking event with a very tough opponent in Alfie Burden.
Burden himself has just won back his tour card, after a bit of a hiatus from top level snooker.

O’Sullivan ‘Rockets’ to 22nd World Ranking Title

Ronnie O’Sullivan romped to his 22nd World Ranking title on Sunday with a 10-5 victory over Liang Wenbo in the final of the Shanghai Masters.
It is also The Rocket’s third ranking event win over in China.
The win edges him ever closer to number two on the all time list, Steve Davis won 28 ranking titles.
The 2,500 fans in the Grand Hall arena and the millions watching on TV would of perhaps hoped for a Chinese victory from the very flamboyant Liang Wenbo. He did manage to pull the score …

Shocks Galore at Shanghai Masters

It was a very strange day for snooker top stars as we reached day two in the 2009 Roewe Shanghai Masters.
The early match featured reigning champion Ricky Walden who in relation to other players throughout the day had a very easy passage into round two with a 5-1 victory over Mark King. Walden is defending a lot of points at this tournament but has once again proved that he is good enough for a top 16 place as his provisional number 12 suggests.

Wenbo Comfortable Against Gilbert

Chinese star Liang Wenbo booked his last 32 place at the Roewe Shanghai Masters with a comfortable 5-2 victory over David Gilbert.

Liang gave his army of fans plenty to cheer about but admitted it wasn’t all straight forward.
“I was a little nervous before my match tonight but you have to face your challenges. I took sometime to settle but it was a tough match and I’m happy to have won,” said the Chinese player.

Completed Results from Shanghai Masters Qualifiers

Former World Champion, Graeme Dott battled back from 4-1 down against Jimmy Robertson to book himself a space on the plane to Shanghai.
Dott who trailed 4-1 at the interval looked a completely different player after the break and capped off the display with a magnificent 113 break to make the score 3-4. In the next frame he leveled the match with breaks of 72 and 44 before winning the match in a very scrappy frame where the highest notable knock was a 38 from Dott.

Doherty Starts the Season Well

Former World Snooker Champion Ken Doherty has started the season with a magnificent win over fellow Irishman Fergal O’Brien.
In an epic match that lasted 4 hours 11 minutes Doherty managed to book himself a trip to the Shanghai Masters with a 5-4 victory.
