Snooker’s New Calendar
Originally leaked by Dave Hendon from Snooker Scene World Snooker is set for more new tournaments again next year with no less than five new events being added to the calendar.
The 2011/12 Calendar will be the biggest for a good number of years as Barry Hearn continues his drive to make the sport great once again.
The five new events (some with very limited detail so far) are the following, two new Ranking events, one in Asia the other to be announced, The Brazilian Masters, A new invitational event in China and the return of the World Cup, due to be played in Thailand.
Add to this the ranking events on the calendar this season, Shanghai Masters, World Open, UK Championship, German Masters, Welsh Open, China Open and the World Championship. Plus the 12 PTC events, qualification tournaments, Premier League, Championship League and The Masters it is going to be one heck of a busy year for the main tour professionals.
This is a good move as more playing opportunities will hopefully improve standards, however, with so many events we may see the top players picking and choosing which ones they attend.
