Rigby and Dixon Win Again, Brett and Finch Join the Party
Lee Rigby and Craig Dixon continued their winning ways in the latest instalment of Money Match TV in Wakefield.
The two Yorkshire natives won their second matches in succession in the winner-stays-on format. Lee Rigby moved from the outside table to the TV table on this occasion as he battled against Manchester’s Brett Armer.
It was a one-sided match in the beginning and by the time Brett Armer really got his arm going it was too late. Lee Rigby finally won the £500-per-man match 21-12 and Armer’s day was probably made less palatable due to arriving late and not getting any pre-match practice on the Brunswick TV table.
Lee Rigby gets his chance to defend again in his next match, but should he turn down 3 offers then he will step down.
Craig Dixon switched to an outside table on this occasion where he came up against Gary Anderson for £1000-per-man. Dixon is proving to be a far better money player than he is tournament player as he is able to focus on the task in hand and cannot partake any alcohol due to this affecting his game. It is a shame that he cannot bring this level of discipline to his tournament matches as his has the ability to be easily in the top 16 on the UK Challenge Tour.
It seemed a huge match for Gary Anderson to be taking on as his first big money match and Dixon proved too tough on this occasion running out a 21-12 winner. Fair play to him for stepping up and it will give him some excellent experience moving into the 2011 season.
It was also the first time that Craig had played with his new Predator and Poison equipment after securing an equipment sponsorship deal after MMTV 2 back in July. He told Cuesportnews.com that he was, “absolutely delighted with the new equipment provided by Predator and hopes he can continue his excellent form for the duration of the year.”
The other two matches produced new winners with Lee Brett besting Jamie Yates 21-18 after a very assured and confident display. He is looking forward to the next event as he will be stepping up to the TV table.
The other TV match was the headline match of the day as Ben Finch took on Dave Nelson for £1000-per-man. Nelson stepped in at the last minute after Jason Howard had to pull out.
It looked like it would be a one-sided affair as Ben went into 8-1 and 9-2 leads only to see Dave find another gear with some excellent play and loads of grit and determination. He had a chance to level the match 17-17 each when the momentum was definitely in his favour only to make a small mistake. It proved costly as Finch went on to win the match 21-16. Had it gone level for the first time since 0-0 then it was possible that Dave Nelson would have won the match.
MMTV 4 takes place on September 18th and will once again be live on Cuesport TV. Matches from previous events can also be found in the 9-ball Pool Category.
