Barry Pinches wins PTC event 4Barry Pinches won the PTC event 4 in Sheffield yesterday by beating three-time World Snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final.

O’Sullivan, had earlier in the day recorded his 600th century of his career and actually led the best of 7 frame final match 3-1 before Pinches put on a spirited performance to close the gap and ultimately win the title.

Pinches was the runner-up against Mark Selby at PTC 2 and so has now amassed £17,100 from the PTC events to date and at this stage looks a certainty to feature in the televised finals in March next year.

The pattern of this match mirrored the match against Selby where he led 3-1 only to lose the match 4-3. This time though he held it together in the deciding frame and commented, “I’m not usually very good in deciding frames so I was delighted to make a good break, I’ve made a couple of technical changes this season, but the main reason my results have been good is that I’m enjoying the game, and practising hard because I’ve always got something to work towards. To come to these PTC events and play in terrific conditions against top class opponents is just fantastic, I can’t praise these tournaments enough.”

Pinches only managed to earn £19,630 in the whole of last season so you can understand his delight at the opportunities these smaller tournaments have presented.

Pinches added that, “The money is very significant for me, and so are the ranking points,I’m also really pleased to beat Ronnie as I’d lost all three matches we’d played before. It’s great to see him supporting these events, he doesn’t need the ranking points but he just gets a buzz from playing the game.”

The next event in the PTC calendar is the Paul Hunter Classic EPTC1, from Furth in Germany.
