Peach Wins Thrilling Eurotour Event in Portugal
Britain’s Daryl Peach, the reigning World 9-ball Pool Champion, has added yet another title to his list by winning the 2009 Eurotour Portugal Open.
Peach, from Blackpool, made history with fellow Brit Imran Majid by playing in the first Eurotour final to feature two British players.
The two of them made the most of the occasion as well with a very thrilling final match that went right to the wire. Peach ended up the victor 9-8 as Imran pushed him the whole way. The win in Portugal is Peach’s second Eurotour title and adds to the stength that UK players are currently showing on the worldwide scene.
There was further good news for the UK based players as Scott Higgins broke into the top 16 in the rankings for the first time. The Mansfield based cueman had a great run to the quarter-fnals of this event and eventually lost to runner-up Imran Majid 9 racks to 4.
Three further British players made the last 16 with Mick Hill in only his third Eurotour event and snooker professional Tom Ford in his first both being beaten at this stage along with Eurotour stalwart Richard Jones.
This recent tournament in Portugal means that there are now six British players in the top 16 of the European rankings.
The Eurotour returns in December with the Costa Del Sol Open.
