Mosconi Cup 2012After the huge success of the 2011 Mosconi Cup in Las Vegas Matchroom Sport have today announced the selection criteria for the European Team players for the 2012 edition of 9-ball’s greatest tournament.

The European selection rankings for the Mosconi Cup will consist of 11 events. There are six Eurotour events and five ‘World’ events. Due to the quality of the field and the guaranteed prize money the ‘World’ events will carry 50% more points value than the Eurotour events.

Only a player reaching the last 32 stage of any of the events will be allocated points and at the end of the final event (The US Open in October) the top 2 in the list will gain automatic spots into the Mosconi Cup team.

The three remaining places in the European Team will be allocated as Matchroom Sport ‘Wild Cards’ but the rankings, like last year, will play a significant part in this selection.

There has already been one event in this ‘seasons’ rankings completed and it is Britain’s Mark Gray, a Mosconi Cup player in 2008, that currently tops the list after his win in Treviso in December 2011.

Matchroom also point out that additional events may still be added to the list if they meet the correct criteria.
