Lovegrove Wins Super Tour Grand Final
Somerset’s Daryl Lovegrove produced an awesome display all weekend to lift the 8-ball Super Tour Grand Final event in Leicester last week. The Weston-Super-Mare based cueman defeated Daniel Davy in a high quality final 8 frames to 4.
The final could have been a completely different story though as Davy had probably been the best player until this point with a victory over Phil Harrison in the semi-finals. Davy raced into a 3-0 lead before a response from Lovegrove and perhaps should have led the match 6-1 had it not been for a lapse in concentration which led to three missed black balls. Missing a black ball is the cardinal sin of 8-ball pool but is even more annoying when you have made a clearance of your colours prior.
Once Lovegrove got the match level at 4-4 he didn’t look back and capitalised on the mistakes of Davy to win the last 4 frames and pick up the £3000 winners prize.
Davy had to settle for £1500 and in a conversation after the tournament he was a bit gutted with the way he performed in the final.
It was a great win for Lovegrove in a tournament that went very smoothly with some very high quality pool throughout. In winning this tournament it meant that Daryl Lovegrove became the fourth different winner in four tournaments on the Super Tour this season, this shows the strength in depth of the tour and the game in the UK at the moment.
The 8-Ball Super Tour will return in August next year, you can watch videos of the 8-Ball Super Tour online at Cuesport TV.
