5 July 2010 675 views No Comment

Mick HillMick Hill is still on course for a unique double at the WEPF World 8-ball Pool Championships in Blackpool. Already into the World Championship 1/4 finals he has now had an excellent run in the World Masters event at the same venue. Hill demolished Arfan Dad 8-0 to reach the semi-finals where he will now play Jon Bushnell of Wales.

If the two-time former WEPF World 8-ball Champion could lift both titles in the same week it would be a very unique double never before achieved in the game.

The other two semi-finalists in the Masters are the relatively unknown Gavin Lomax and Thomas Morrow of Northern Ireland, both the World Masters semi-finals start at 16:00 uk time today (5th July).

World Masters Results:

Last 16 (England unless stated)

Richard King 6-8 Gavin Lomax
Rob Wharne 3-8 Marc Farnsworth
Thomas Morrow (NI) 8-1 Ian Kettel
Simon Ward (Wal) 8-5 Hiten Patel (Ind)
Mick Hill 8-3 Steve Robertshaw
Morray Dolan 5-8 Arfan Dad
Jon Bushnell (Wal) 8-2 Gary McLeod (WI)
Gareth Potts 5-8 Ben Flack

Quarter Finals:

Lomax 8-5 Farnsworth
Morrow 8-6 Ward
Hill 8-0 Dad
Bushnell 8-3 Flack

Semi Finals:

Lomax v Morrow
Hill v Bushnell

In the WEPF World Championships the four top seeds are still all in contention as we reach the televised stages. All four quarter-finals, the two semi-finals and the final are all recorded for later broadcast on Sky Sports in the UK. The lineup for the quarter-finals includes four former World Champions.

World Championship Quarter Finals

Phil Harrison v Adam Davis
Gareth Hibbott v Mick Hill
Jason Twist v Craig Waddingham
Lee Clough v Gareth Potts

Defending champion Phil Harrison faces a tough test against a player some people see as a good bet for the title in Adam Davis, he reached the semi-finals last year and will of course have the belief that he can go at least one better.

Craig Waddingham is an interesting player, he has come through all of the rounds so far and is the only qualifier still left in the tournament, he will play former champion Jason Twist.

The other two matches also include former champions in Hill and Potts, both players will expect a tough match against their respective opponents.
