Fu is the Fourth Man Through to Winners Group
Hong Kong’s Marco Fu is the fourth player through to the Championship League snooker winner’s group in March.
The likable player who has been struggling with form of late was said to be delighted after defeating Australian Neil Robertson 3-0 in the final yesterday.
Fu has good pedigree and actually won the Premier League back in 2003, which the Championship League is the qualification tournament for.
Fu Said, “I’ve played very well this tournament. I’ve not played well this season so it’s been nice to get some match practice and play the top players.
“Winning is a habit so it’s been a good week for me, especially with the Welsh Open coming up soon.”
Fu made an amazing start to group four on Wednesday when he whitewashed his first two opponents, Mark Allen and Ali Carter both by the same 3-0 scoreline. What further enhanced his performance was the nature of the victory, every break in the six frames was over 50 with no less than four centuries. Breaks of 86, 133 and 120 saw off group 3 runner-up Mark Allen and breaks of 144, 82 and 103 saw off Carter.
The Championship League is a unique tournament played behind closed doors at the Crondon Park Golf Club is Essex. The tournament is aired exclusively live via a number of betting websites in the UK and abroad.
The overall winner from the winner’s group in March will compete in the 2010 Premier League which is aired live on Sky Sports.
Group 5 starts on February the eighth where three new players, Barry Hawkins, Jamie Cope and Dave Harold join Peter Ebdon, Neil Robertson and Mark Allen.
