Barry Hearn faces a rival bid for control of snooker’s commercial arm World Snooker.
Former Olympian and businessman John Davison has already had his ideas backed by former World Champions Stephen Hendry and Peter Ebdon.
Ebdon himself was massively opposed to Hearn’s plans – which would see his Matchroom company take a permanent 51% stake in World Snooker and permanent clearly meant forever in the meat of these plans.
“You cannot possibly give control of the association away under any circumstances.” said Ebdon at the World Championships.

A brand new snooker series, the World Snooker Player Tour Championship, is set to start next month and will form an integral part of the sport’s era of innovation.
The series will feature 12 events with 6 held at the Academy in Sheffield and a further six at International venues, including 4 in Germany which has seen a massive growth in snooker over the last couple of years.

After having already announced the World Open and a return for ranking snooker to Berlin in Germany, Barry Hearn the Chairman of the WPBSA, is not resting on his laurels. The latest event to be announced by the Matchroom supremo is the World Snooker Shootout.
The tournament scheduled for 28th-30th January 2011 will be shown live on Sky Sports, the first time a World Snooker event will have been shown on the subscription platform since 2004.

The tournament that all snooker fans wait all year for is now fully underway at the Crucible. The 2010 Betfred.com World Snooker Championships will no doubt entertain and may also throw up a few surprises along the way as well.
