BWPPA Fundraiser is a great success!
Rileys Barnsley held a fundraising event for the British Wheelchair Pool Players Association on Friday 13th November. The event, organised by the current World Number One, 2008 WPA World 10-ball Pool Champion and the 2009 9-ball pool World Masters Champion Darren Appleton saw a mouth watering main event which consisted of a scotch doubles 9-ball challenge match between Appleton who partnered Karl Boyes, semi-finalist at the 2007 World 9-ball Championship, they took on the current BWPPA number 1 Roy Kimberley who partnered Karl Read the current BWPPA number 2, a former European 8-ball Champion and USA National Champion in a race to 9 with ALL FOUR PLAYERS IN WHEELCHAIRS!
The match was played in good spirits, with Boyzi and Daz doing wheelies around the table, this very nearly led to injury as Darren got a bit too confident and tipped his chair and fell head first backwards! I must say both non-wheelchair players did exceptionally well and almost caused an upset, but after an epic battle Kimberley/Read took the win by 9 racks to 8.
Next up was a trick-shot exhibition from “The Magician” Chris Melling who wowed the audience with his superb skills. There was also a raffle that took place which had a first prize of a Predator Sneaky Pete cue, with other prizes that included a days coaching with Darren Appleton, Cuesport TV subscriptions, DVD’s and luxury meals.
A great night was had by all and I believe the night raised over £1300 for Europe’s largest and toughest wheelchair pool tour.
