L, Andrew Barker - R, Ajeya PrabhakarThe twice United States National Snooker Championship semifinalist, Andrew Barlow, has won Event 3 of the 2010 United States Snooker Association (USSA) Tour, with victory at the California Billiard Club in Mountain View, California.  A small but fervent band of snooker enthusiasts convened on Saturday, March 13th.  The event was sponsored by CBC with a very generous $300 of added cash.  Aramith donated two sets of championship snooker balls and the cloth on the tables was Strachan 6811, the same all-wool napped cloth used in the world championships.

Barlow was a winner on last year’s inaugural Tour, and secured his second Tour Event title with a 4-0 success over last year’s United States National Snooker Championship runner-up, Ajeya Prabhakar. Prabhakar, who also serves as the USSA’s president, has now lost in all three finals in which he has played on the USSA Tour, and was defeated by Barlow by the same score line in the final of Event 5 on last year’s Tour.  The eight players were grouped into two groups of four, with each player in a group playing each of the other three.  Each match consisted of three frames (racks) of snooker.  At the end of Saturday, the Group A leaders were Andrew Barlow and Ajeya Prabhakar and the Group B leaders were Bob Jewett and Chris Zhou.

On Sunday the 14th, the play changed to single elimination with four players returning.  A1 played B2 and vice-versa.  In the best of 3 matches, Barlow and Prabhakar dominated and both won their matches 3-0 over Zhou and Jewett respectively. The finals were a race to 4 and just as lop-sided when Barlow white-washed Prabhakar.

Barlow, who is originally from England though has lived in the United States for several years, also claimed the highest break of the Tour Event with a run of 57.

The USSA would like to thank the California Billiard Club for again supporting the USSA Tour.  The USSA National Snooker Tour is sponsored by Aramith Billiard Balls and Strachan West Of  England snooker cloth, and the 2010 Tour will feature its fifth stop (of the six-stop Tour) at Top 147 Snooker Club in Brooklyn, NY during the dates of April 10-11 (contact Raymond Fung at 917 923-5118 / rayfung196956@yahoo.com).  Full Tour schedule and entry details are available at www.snookerusa.com.
