Darkside Promotions held their second event in Club 147 this last Saturday and what a night of entertaining pool it was!

All three of the challenge matches laid on for the public carried a total purse of £2000.00 adding a massive element of pressure to the proceedings.

Andy Appleton

Andy Appleton

First up was a match between Andy Appleton and Chun Hao Man. Many believed Appleton to be the winner on paper and he proved himself with an assured 30-11 victory. He went three nil behind, but once level he never really looked back, one of the biggest assets he showed during the match was a very consistent breaking performance.

Appleton regularly made three balls on the break making the 9-ball runout that much easier and often giving him control of the table just when Chun needed to pot some balls.

Fair play to Chun for accepting the challenge and stepping up to the match, he never gave up and every opportunity at the table he still went for his shots. Perhaps the pressure of the situation got to him but we will no doubt see him perform again soon.

Something that must be added is that these two players are two of the nicest guys you could wish to meet and the match was conducted in a very professional manner.

The Main Event

On the Cuesport TV table, Leicester’s own Ben Moore came up against the difficult opponent of Tony Burton. Everyone we spoke to before the match suggested this game was tough to call and would finish very close with Moore perhaps the slight favourite with the home advantage.

How wrong were the pundits? Very, is the answer, Ben Moore is proving himself to be a very adept money player and he went about his business in a very confident manner. He won the match 30-14 in a very one-sided display.

Burton did get a bit pertulant towards the end as he realised it was going to be extremely difficult to come back from such a deficit.

Few people will doubt Ben Moore’s calibre now and he may well prove to be one of the UK’s most feared money players.

In the other match not on the TV table Simon Widlo cam up against another young essex player in Jack Triggs. It was a good match of 10-ball pool plyed in a good spirit. Widlo with the more experience proved himself with a 25-17 victory.

The next event in this series is scheduled for 19th December and word has it that either Tony Robles or Dennis Hatch will be making an appearance from the USA.
